Certain weapons and armor are meant to be equipped only by those trained in Oiyoi Martial Arts. These weapons and armors allow you to retain all the benefits of Oiyoi like dodging attacks and increased unarmed defense while having them equipped. Also, Oiyoi weapons have 2X the durability so they take more use before wearing down.
The effective level of Oiyoi weapons and armor differs from Oiyoi's natural strength level. An unarmed martial artist has attack and defense strengths equal to that of the player, whereas someone using an Oiyoi weapon or armor will have an attack or defense level equal to that of the weapon or armor. In this regard, these items act the exact same as other weapons and armor.

Additionally, A Dagger can also be wielded as an Oiyoi weapon if you are trained in Assassin Training level 1.
