Leather
Leather is useful for building Flags, which you will build to mark your territory.
What to look for:
Leather is currently found on Stags, Dire Wolves, and Boars. When hunting groups of Stags, they tend to flee from an attack, so be smart about the direction you approach from to ensure you will get as many as possible without them running away out of sight. Wolves attack in packs, so be ready with Berries. Critters reappear after ~6 hours, so you will only see them once a day unless you do a lot of traveling. From my experience about 30% of the time, a Stag or other critter will 'jump out of his skin' for you.
